Tottenham Hotspur considered themselves unlucky when they had to settle for the second position in the Premier League last term. However, they will want to go a step ahead this time around and have made a decent start to their domestic campaign this year.
The Whites were nowhere near the big spenders during the summer transfer window, adding only a few new faces to their side. However, they might look to add a few more in January and are monitoring some exciting players at present.
The name on the top of their target list is that of the Croatian midfielder Milan Badelj, who is currently playing for the Italian club Fiorentina. The 28-year-old is one of the highly regarded players in Serie A and is considered as a potential target for the North London club, who are looking to add a new enforcer to their side.
Badelj has made a name for himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in Italian football, attracting interest from a number of clubs from all over Europe. Reportedly, Premier League clubs Manchester United and Chelsea, who are also in dire need of adding a new midfielder to their side in the near future, are looking to put a bid on the table for the Fiorentina star man in January.
The 28-year-old arrived at the Serie A outfit in 2014 and has carved a niche in the side with his brilliant displays on the pitch over the last couple of seasons. He is known for his swift footwork in the middle of the pitch, helping his side to build up moves and pass the ball into the final third, to set his teammates up in front of the goal.
His ominous presence in the midfield for Fiorentina has earned him rave reviews from a number of experts and Mauricio Pochettino is no stranger to that.
The Argentine gaffer is worried about his team formation with one of his first choice midfielders Mousa Dembele out on the sidelines with an injury scare. He might be interested to bag the Croatian international to form a partnership with the English enforcer Eric Dier, stabilising the midfield to its core.
The 28-year-old midfielder has made 120 appearances for Fiorentina so far and might use his experience to help the Tottenham midfield work in a more efficient way. Milan Badelj is set to be a valuable addition to the side if Spurs can land him in January. But is he the right man for them?
