Southampton had a mixed start to their campaign in the Premier League, having lost three of their first seven matches, leading them to stand on the 12th position in the league table. They will hope for better results, but it might not be possible as there is lack of quality players in their strike force.
The South Coast club are desperate to get back into the top half of the table and need someone to inspire their side to a good finish in the top flight. They are currently eyeing a number of new players to be brought into the side and it looks like they might look to sign the Dutch teenager Steven Bergwijn who is currently playing for the Eredivisie club PSV Eindhoven.
The winger has been a revelation in Dutch football over the last couple of seasons, having made a mark with his pace and prowess. He has attracted interests from a number of clubs from all over Europe. However, Southampton are looking to bag the player for the new season at any cost.
Steven Bergwijn is one of the most highly regarded players in Dutch football and may be making his way out PSV in the next transfer window with the likes of Tottenham and Bournemouth also looking keen on his signature. The 19-year-old winger has the ability to play on both flanks and is tipped to become one of the future stars of the Netherlands national team.
Southampton, on the other hand, have a number of good players in their side but they are currently not able to get the results required. The Saints are hoping that the addition of the young winger might give them the impetus to score more and get them the points that they desperately need.
Mauricio Pellegrino is hopeful that the 19-year-old Dutchman can help them to turn their fortunes around in the future. Bergwijn has been one of the brightest youngsters in Netherlands and is awaiting his maiden call to the senior squad of the national team, following their disastrous performances in the European Qualifiers. He has been a regular with the youth squad so far.
However, it might not be easy for Southampton to sign the player as they will have to fight for his signature with more than a couple of clubs. He can be a decent addition but is he the right man for the Saints?
