European champions Real Madrid are keeping tabs on Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino as a potential successor of Zinedine Zidane. The Argentinian mastermind has raised a lot of eyebrows in Tottenham’s 1-1 draw with Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu recently.
According to the Sun, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is very interested in Mauricio Pochettino should Zidane leaves the club one day. Although Perez is adamant that the Frenchman will remain the head coach for Los Blancos after leading them to two successive Champions League triumph as well a league title last season. Zidane’s success as Real Madrid head coach has been phenomenal, to say the least.
However, nothing is guaranteed at a club like Real Madrid. The Spanish giants weren’t shy to strip off their prized goalkeeping asset in Iker Casillas from the team, a few seasons ago, and they won’t feel guilty in throwing their honourable Zidane into the dirt either. And should that happen anytime soon, Mauricio Pochettino can actually be a perfect replacement for the French footballing legend.
Since taking over Spurs in 2014, the Argentinian has done a great job to revive the historic Premier League outfit to its former glory. Indeed, for the past years, Spurs have constantly pushed for the title, and the time may come soon when the Lilywhites finally get to lift the elusive silverware.
Despite having a rather low budget compared to their league rivals, Mauricio Pochettino has managed to strike together a cohesive unit, which has been one of the most dominant and consistent teams in the past few years in the Premier League.
Building a cohesive unit at Real Madrid was one of the key reasons for Zidane’s success at the Bernabeu and Pochettino’s ability in pacing together a unit will truly help the defending champions of Spain.
In addition, the 45 years old is known for his ability in nurturing young talents. At Spurs, ‘Poch’ developed several great individual talents who evolved as some of the key players on their current roster. Playing like Dele Alli, Harry Kane, Kieran Trippier, and Eric Dier have all thrived under the leadership of the Argentinian head coach.
Seeing as to how the current Real Madrid setup is aging, Pochettino’s arrival could really spark up the youth production for the Spanish giants, which could eventually help them in the long run.
Made no mistake, Mauricio Pochettino is the best man for the job should Zinedine Zidane exits the Bernabeu any time soon.
