Two goals from Louis Moult for Motherwell in the semi-final at the Hampden Park ensured the exit of Rangers from the League Cup earlier today. Here is how Pedro Caixinha’s men fared in their forgettable 0-2 defeat at the hands of Steve Robinson’s troops.
Jak Alnwick 6/10
Alnwick made a couple of very decent saves during the game and couldn’t really be blamed for conceding the two goals against the Steelmen.
James Tavernier 5/10
Tavernier might have seemingly appeared to be interested in going forward but he was anonymous for the major part of the game as he failed to find his feet.
Bruno Alves 5.5/10
Despite looking composed during the first half, the veteran Portuguese failed to get along with his teammates in the second half.
Fabio Cardoso 4/10
Cardoso was unconvincing as he failed to cope up with the animosity which Ryan Bowman and Louis Moult had on offer. Certainly, it wasn’t one of his good days at the office.
Declan John 6.5/10
Someone who kept toiling for his employers, John kept marauding down the left but then, he lacked the productivity which he should have manoeuvred.
Ryan Jack 6/10
Although he shielded the backline more often than not by reading the attacking endeavours of the Well, he lacked the intent whilst going forward and offensively, he should have contributed more.
Graham Dorrans 6/10
One of the better players of the night, Dorrans looked sharp, desirous and willing on several occasions but was choked by Motherwell’s players who gave him absolutely no space as the game progressed.
Daniel Candeias 6.5/10
Candeias did try to link up with his teammates, attempted to breach the opposition’s defence and passed the ball well. Nonetheless, he lacked the final product.
Josh Windass 5.5/10
He missed a couple of glorious chances and kept finding himself in and out of the game before being substituted.
Carlos Pena 4/10
The Mexican failed to involve himself in the game and was missing, particularly in the first half. His poor show forced Caixinha to replace him eventually.
Alfredo Morelos 5/10
Morelos was monitored in an astute manner by Motherwell’s defenders who kept a close eye on him. The youngster started off well but faded later on.
Substitutions:
Aaron Nemane 4/10
He substituted Pena with half an hour remaining but was largely ineffective.
Ross McCrorie 4/10
After being brought on as a replacement for Cardoso, he should have done better to prevent Moult from scoring his second goal.
Eduardo Herrera 4.5/10
Herrera replaced Windass with a quarter of an hour left to play as a desperate measure, and of course, the change didn’t yield anything substantial.
