Week 10 of the Premier League was as always filled with must-watch games, hugely important games and some star players. Manchester United kicked off the weekend at home to Spurs in a must-win game for both sides. It was United who came out on top in that one with Anthony Martial scoring the only goal of the game. United’s win earlier in the day did put some pressure on top of the table Manchester City. But as always, City proved too much for their opponents, West Brom, as they beat them 3-2.
At the bottom end of the table this week Crystal Palace came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with West Ham and put either more pressure on Slaven Bilic. A managerless Everton were also in action and despite getting rid of Ronald Koeman, they were still poor. They lost 2-0 to Leicester City.
Swansea City also nearly caused an upset when they took the lead at Arsenal. But the Gunners would save themselves from embarrassment and come back to win 2-1. Elsewhere Liverpool beat Huddersfield 3-0, Watford lost 1-0 to Stoke City, Chelsea won 1-0 at Bournemouth, Brighton drew 1-1 with Southampton and Newcastle got beat 1-0 by Burnley. Here are T4O POTW nominees. You can vote for who you think should be player of the week by going to @Official_T4O on twitter and voting in the poll attached to this article.
Leroy Sane vs West Brom
Sane is certainly having his best season in a City shirt this season. He has become a regular starter for Manchester City in the league. And at times has been their best player.
He has also bagged four goals and five assists in his last five Premier League games. An outstanding record when you consider he is fighting for goals with the likes of Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus.
But it was his performance at West Brom on Saturday that could mean he picks up T4O POTW this week. Manchester City won the game 3-2. But they were by no means at their best. Gabriel Jesus was missing for most of the game, David Silva missed a few big chances and Kevin De Bruyne couldn’t hit the target to save his life.
Luckily for City, Sane was as on form as ever. He opened the scoring for City with an excellent finish on 10 minutes. West Brom would equalise almost immediately. But once again Sane was involved in City’s second as he set up Fernandinho who put Pep’s men back in front.
Sane was by far Man City’s brightest attacker vs West Brom. And given how shaky their defence was they could of very well drew or lost that game if Sane had not been on form once again.
Joe Hart vs Crystal Palace
Since arriving back in England to play for West Ham, Joe Hart has come under some serious criticism. This is largely because West Ham have let in 19 goals in 10 league games this season, all of which Hart played in. This poor record has even lead to many people believing Hart should no longer be England’s number one.
However, when West Ham took on Crystal Palace on Saturday, Joe Hart put in a performance that any goalkeeper would be proud of. Yes, Hart did let in two goals. But he could do very little about either of them. And if not for Hart’s countless quality saves throughout the game, West Ham would likely have lost the game.
Hart was so good that he even prompted Wilfred Zaha, who eventually scored past Hart in the 97th minute, to come out and say that Hart was proving impossible to get past. It is not often an opposition player speaks to highly of a keeper after a game. This should show just how good Hart was against Palace.
Sead Kolasinac vs Swansea City
When Sam Clucas put Swansea City 1-0 at the Emirates Arsenal looked set for another classic Arsenal disaster.
Luckily for Wenger Kolasinac was on fire for Arsenal and it was his excellent display that saw Arsenal come back to win 2-1. Kolasinac played in a left wing-back role against Swansea. This allowed him to be constantly getting forward and causing Swansea problems.
He spent the majority of the game in and around the Swansea box. This would eventually pay off for him when on 51 minutes he fired in a thunderbolt which brought Arsenal level. Granted it did take a bit of a deflection. But it was hit with real power and even without the deflection, it was unlikely to be saved.
After scoring the equaliser Kolasinac did not give up. He continued to make excellent runs into the Swansea box. This would eventually be rewarded in the 58th minute when he chested down the ball in the box and played a great ball across goal to Aaron Ramsey who made it 2-1 to Arsenal.
2-1 was how the game finished and it’s safe to say, if Kolasinac had not been so relentless with his runs into the Swansea box, Arsenal could well have lost that game.
