Newcastle United are experiencing a mixed start to the season, having won three matches so far with the same number of losses against their name as well. The Magpies are looking to perform in the way they did in the last term to win the Championship but are lacking in quality, especially up front.
The Tyneside club is currently having a bunch of forwards who have been playing decently for them but inspite of that the club might look to add some better options to their side in the future. They are eyeing a number of players and might just bid for the Dutch striker Bas Dost.
The 28-year-old is currently plying his trade for the Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon and has been attracting the eyes of a number of clubs from all the European leagues including the Premier League. The player might make a move out of his current outfit in the next transfer window and there is a possibility for him to land at Newcastle United.
The Magpies are looking to add a genuine goalscorer to their side for the future and Dost might just be their best option. The player has been eyed by Everton as well who have found themselves in an embarrassing situation when it has come to goal scoring so far this season.
The ex-Wolfsburg striker was bought into the Portuguese club in 2016 and has played a pivotal role in their side since his arrival. He has made 53 appearances so far and has scored 41 goals to show his class in the Primeira Liga, helping his side end the last term in the third position.
Apart from his guile and prowess, the prolific goalscorer has made a good contribution with a number of assists for his side. He has been accounted for dishing out 14 assists so far and is adored as a team player at the Portuguese club.
The Magpies have scored nine goals so far this season and are looking to add more to their goal tally, helping them to climb higher up the league table. Standing in the ninth position, the Tyneside club is hoping to keep their position in the top half of the table and might be happy to have a player like Bas Dost on their side in the near future.
However, Sporting has reportedly placed a price tag of €60 million on the prize forward, which might be too much for the Magpies to shell out on a single player.
