Manchester City are in outstanding form this season and have not lost a match so far in the Premier League as well as in the Champions League. The current league leaders are looking to extend their run in the near future and might be on their to win their third Premier League title.
The only matter that might concern the gaffer Pep Guardiola is the unavailability of a full proof defensive lineup at his disposal, with his first choice centre-back and captain Vincent Kompany not being able to feature for the sides since the start of the current season. Though Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones have played out of their skins, it might be very useful for the Citizens if they can add another centre-back to their squad in the near future.
Among a number of top-class defenders who are being eyed by the Spaniard, Uruguayan international Jose Gimenez is on the top of the list. The player is currently playing for the Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid and has made 103 appearances so far for Los Colchoneros.
The 22-year-old is regarded as one of the best defenders in Europe and has been targeted by a number of clubs from all major leagues around Europe. The centre-back has an ominous presence in the box and is tipped to make a move out of the Wanda Metropolitano in the near future.
Apart from Manchester City, Italian giants, Juventus are also looking to make a bid for the player as they are also looking to strengthen their defence. However, the Citizens are not going to make it easy for the Bianconeri and might be on their way to securing the services of the prized defender from Atletico Madrid.
The player, whose contract will be concluded by the end of this season, will be available on a free transfer. However, the Manchester club will have to pay €65 million for his release clause and avail his services, if they want him in January. Given the kind of monetary power the Citizens have at their disposal, it might not be a real problem for them to complete this deal.
The 22-year-old defender is known for his ability to keep the goal safe with well-timed tackles and clearances and also has the ability to score goals from set-piece situations. His towering presence at the heart of the backline can bring relief to the Citizens and help them contain the opposition with more precision.
But is he the right man for Pep?
