Liverpool football club at the moment are facing a crisis and that’s a defensive one. While a point against Manchester United and the routing of Maribor might have provided some comfort, they piled the negative energy back on themselves after a humiliating defeat suffered at the hands of Pochettino’s Spurs at Wembley. Here’s how they’ve been rated:
GK: Simon Mignolet – 2/10
Woeful mistake to make as he let Kane score inside four minutes by coming for the ball and not getting it. He could have done better for Son’s goal and he showed no communication or chemistry with his defenders and conceded the third and fourth as well. Simply outrageous.
RB: Joe Gomez – 4/10
Average and not better than any of his partners at the back.
CB: Joel Matip – 3/10
Didn’t cover Lovren properly and was a big let down in terms of understanding and communication. Gave the ball straight to Alli for Spurs’s third. Horrendous.
CB: Dejan Lovren – 1/10
Two massive errors in a huge game and he let down the entire team. The game was very well over after that. He was subbed off due to tactical reasons before the halftime even ended.
LB: Alberto Moreno – 4.5/10
Got forward well and he was a decent outlet on the left. Nothing special otherwise.
CDM: Jordan Henderson – 3/10
Barring the sublime assist he provided, he was overwhelmed completely and didn’t help his team at all.
CM: Emre Can – 2.5/10
Barely noticeable and largely ineffective.
CM: James Milner – 3.5/10
He was visible on some occasions and did get the ball forward but the end product just wasn’t enough.
LM: Philippe Coutinho – 5.5/10
Tried hard to get something for Liverpool but the Tottenham defence kept him in check. Decent but his other members need to contribute more to let him free.
CF: Roberto Firmino – 2/10
It didn’t look like he stood a chance against this Spurs defence all game and he certainly didn’t do himself any favours with his underwhelming efforts.
RM: Mohamed Salah – 7/10
Probably the Liverpool player who tried the hardest and got the only goal with his speed. He deserves more.
Substitutes:-
M: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 5/10
He certainly showed energy but dismal end product.
FW: Daniel Sturridge – N/A
Came on too late.
CM: Marko Grujic – N/A
