The Premier League champions from the 2015/16 season, Leicester City, are having a disastrous season so far. They have not won more than a single match so far and have already entered the dreaded zone of relegation.
The disappointing results since the start of the season have finally taken its toll on their manager Craig Shakespeare and the Englishman has been sacked by the club authority, making it another shocking decision this term. Before him, the Dutch manager Frank De Boer faced the same fate when he was axed after just four matches in charge of Crystal Palace, the team who are currently placed at the bottom of the league table.
Craig Shakespeare was brought in as the manager in the last season after the Foxes sacked their Premier League winning boss Claudio Ranieri on the back of a series of disappointing performances. The English manager took charge of the Foxes during the business end of the last term and tried his level best to guide them in the right way, helping his side to finish at the 12th spot in the league table.
However, this season, his squad has not been able to live up to his expectations. The Foxes have fought well so far but have succumbed to four defeats in their first eight matches in the Premier League.
This has made the club management somewhat impatient about the strategies and tactics implemented by their gaffer and they took the decision to sack him. The decision, however, is a little hasty, to say the least as the team was dishing out improved performances than they did earlier in the campaign.
The spirit to fight against even the toughest of oppositions has always been there this season, which was missing from the side in the last term. The players are looking in good shape as well and are starting to perform as a cohesive unit under Shakespeare’s stewardship.
With complete submission being a thing of past for the Foxes since the start of this season, there was an opportunity for the English gaffer to get the best out of his players in the near future.
It will not be possible now and the team will have to start afresh, under a new manager, getting accustomed to the new ways. However, they will now have to believe in themselves and their new gaffer to make it a better season in the Premier League, carving out an escape route from the zone of relegation.
Do you think Leicester were right in sacking the English boss?
