The month of October didn’t prove to be a productive one for Championship outfit, Leeds United, as they could churn out just one win from five outings across all competitions. The Whites were beaten by the former Premier League champions, Leicester City, in the League Cup and apart from their 3-0 away win against Bristol City, they failed to bag even a single point from their three other outings, which comprised of games against Sheffield Wednesday, Reading and Sheffield United.
Under the stewardship of Thomas Christiansen, Leeds United have piled 23 points from their 14 games so far in the Championship and are currently placed at the 5th spot in the league chart. The Blades are at the top of the table with 30 points and given the calibre Leeds United have in their ranks, such a difference should not have arisen in the first place itself. Prior to the start of the season, the Peacocks were touted as one of the favourites to earn an automatic promotion, but their sporadic run of form lately hasn’t justified their cause.
Christiansen made some quality signings during the summer transfer window, with the likes of Pawel Cibicki, Ezgjan Alioski, Samu Saiz and Felix Wiedwald making a move to the Elland Road. However, the 44-year-old is pretty familiar with the terrible catastrophe which Leeds United suffered last season during Garry Monk’s reign. The Yorkshire based club succumbed during the business end and thus, it would be wise from Christiansen to refill his armoury in January and avoid such similar complacencies.
Apparently, reports have emerged that Leeds United have put Ghana’s young attacker Abdul-Basit Agouda on their radar and are closely monitoring his progress. Agouda is perceived to be one of the finest young talents to have surfaced recently. Currently plying his trade with Norwegian side Stromsgodset, the 18-year-old’s contract with his current employers expires at the end of this season and he has rejected two offers of a contract extension, which implies that he is vouching for an outlet.
The skilful attacker joined Stromsgodset in the January transfer window of 2015 from Skeid and has been on the receiving end of rave reviews in Norway. Although Leeds United do have some quality attackers to meet their offensive needs, someone like Agouda can add a different dimension up front. However, given his unfamiliarity with English football and lack of experience, signing him would certainly involve a substantial degree of risk as well.
