Championship outfit, Leeds United, have been sporadic of late and frankly speaking, they should be delivering much more productive results with the calibre they have. The Whites, after their League Cup defeat at the hands of Leicester City, were beaten 1-2 by Sheffield United at the Elland Road at the weekend. As a result, they find themselves with 23 points from their 14 games so far in the English second division.
Under the tutelage of Garry Monk, Leeds United came very close to securing a top-six finish last season. They were one of the best sides to watch for the major chunk of the season but withered away right at the business, which hindered their prospects of a promotion to the Premier League.
The Yorkshire based club, under the reign of Thomas Christiansen this time around, made some stupendous signings during the summer transfer window to beef up their arsenal.
With the likes of Pawel Cibicki, Felix Wiedwald, Samuel Saiz and Ezgjan Alioski being lured into their ranks, the primary objective of Christiansen is to navigate his troops to the promised land of the Premier League. But having witnessed the catastrophe last season, it goes without saying that Leeds United would be trying to refrain themselves from being complacent with their squad and try to make additions in the January transfer window.
Apparently, the Daily Mail has reported that Leeds have put Australian midfielder, James Jeggo, on their radar, although a couple of other Championship clubs such as Middlesbrough and Hull City are also monitoring him very closely. Currently plying his trade with Austrian Bundesliga outfit, Sturm Graz, Leggo’s contract runs out at the end of this season and the 25-year-old has turned down the offer of an extension.
Impliedly, the Peacocks can sign a pre-contract agreement in January, with the player moving to the Elland Road in the summer or a cut-price deal can also be struck in the upcoming transfer window. Jeggo is a central midfielder who is defensively oriented, nd has plenty of experience under his belt. He was called into the national side of the Socceroos but is yet to make a debut.
While Leeds United seem to be interested to add steel to their midfield, it has to be kept in mind that Jeggo isn’t familiar to English football and is yet to prove that he is an exceptional player. Before they go out to sign him, Christiansen should check if he has the potential to uplift the morale and quality of his side in the near future.
