West Ham United are currently battling for their prolonged existence in the Premier League. The Hammers have managed to win just two matches so far and pressure is mounting on Slaven Bilic for an imminent result. The club hierarchy has already served an ultimatum to the Croatian manager and he could be on his way out if not much changes in the next two matches.
The Hammers are reportedly lining up a move for Hoffenheim manager Julian Nagelsmann as they are ready to replace Bilic with the German manager. A number of clubs already got rid of their managers but the Hammers don’t want to follow suit as they want a proper replacement in mind before pushing Bilic out.
Nagelsmann has made a name for himself having led the German club to a brilliant fourth place finish last season and has maintained the same level this season as they are currently in the same place. The 30-year old’s playing career lasted a very short time but he has made his own mark so far in his managerial career and a number of coveted clubs are chasing him.
Nagelsmann has been likened to Jose Mourinho and he even has the nickname ‘Mini Mourinho’. He was appointed back in 2016 and has been so far excellent as the Hoffenheim boss. Bayern Munich are also an avid admirer of the manager and might fancy their chance in bringing one of the top young managers in the European circuit at the end of the season.
The German giants recently parted ways with Carlo Ancelotti and Jupp Heynckes is handling the charge but only as an interim manager. They are likely to make a move for Nagelsmann and it could make Hammers’ path pretty difficult.
Bilic managed to hang onto his job last season and had hoped things would turn out in his favour, but their defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion seemed to have done the damage, which could have been repaired after they beat Spurs in the League Cup earlier this week.
The Hammers were supposed to see out this match with ease but Brighton were too hot for them and Bilic’s side must now find an alternate way to get their domestic season back on track.
Bilic’s contract will be expiring at the end of this season and there has been no renewal talks from the club so far. The Hammers are also eyeing a host of other managers in case Nagelsmann turns down their proposal which includes Manuel Pellegrini, David Wagner and Roberto Mancini.
But do you think Nagelsmann is the right choice for West Ham?
