Crystal Palace have been linked with a whole host of strikers following their dismal performance in the ongoing season. Roy Hodgson’s position at the club is on the edge and any mishap in the next couple of matches could bring an end to his cameo role.
According to reports, the Eagles are mulling a move for Liverpool striker Danny Ings. Hodgson’s available forwards have all mostly drawn a blank this season and the Eagles gaffer is in the dire need of a forward in January.
Palace mustered a shock win over Chelsea in the Premier League but couldn’t back up that with an adequate performance as they fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hand of Newcastle United. Hodgson’s misery worsened when Bristol City thumped them 4-1 in the Carabao Cup tie to leave them in shambles.
Injuries have been a stumbling block in Ings’ development as following his arrival to Anfield, he had a severe knee injury which forced him to miss a very long period. But the 25-year-old has featured a number of times of the Liverpool reserves and might be ready for a first-team opportunity.
But with Liverpool opted to bring in Dominic Solanke from Chelsea this summer, chances might be scarce for him. A short-term loan deal would be suitable for both parties as Jurgen Klopp would be excited to give the player a chance to revive his fortunes elsewhere.
It has been nothing short of devastation for Ings as injuries have not allowed him to flourish properly at Anfield since his move back in 2015. On to his third season, the English international has only managed to rack up six Premier League appearances under his belt.
Ings would be adamant to prove his worth again and also needs a platform to convince Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate to include him in his starting lineup for the upcoming World Cup.
Newcastle United and Watford are also monitoring him and both the clubs could test their resolve in the January transfer window. Ings has a tremendous work rate and also offers impressive defensive workload.
His hold up play is also another impressive attributes so overall if he is given a good run of games he could emerge as the next big thing at Selhurst Park.
It could be difficult for him to have an instant impact but football can be very kind at times and Ings would be hoping to get his career back on track.
