Roman Abramovich has planned to sign Lazio striker Ciro Immobile in order to provide a ‘perfect’ partner for Alvaro Morata.
Antonio Conte has been rather upset by the summer transfer window and some of the decisions taken by the club. But signing Immobile could help reignite this relationship. The Lazio striker though had a laugh when told about an unnamed Chinese club and Chelsea being interested in him. He was rewarded with a long-term contract just a week back and seems happy to stay at the club.
However, Chelsea are looking to make a huge bid which would flatter the Italian side to use the big money to add quality to their side.. The 27-year-old striker has been in exquisite form this season scoring 13 goals already in Serie-A and has hence, caught the eyes of many. Lazio are surprisingly fighting for the title and have already beaten Juventus, thanks to a brace from Immobile and AC Milan, a match which saw the forward score a hat-trick.
Immobile started his career at Sorrento and went on to join Juventus. He had to travel around for loan spells at Sienna, Grosseto and Pescara. He was then signed by Genoa after an impressive season with Pescara where he got 28 goals to his name.
Sadly for the Old fools, he failed to score in the second half of the season and hence, was sold. He stamped his authority in world football with Torino in the 2013-2014 season where he bagged 23 goals in just 34 appearances. This immediately caught the eyes of German giants Borussia Dortmund.
Unfortunately, his form dipped again and was thereby loaned out to Sevilla and Torino in the same season. In the 2016-17 season, he was bought by Lazio. He has been at his prime in this part of Italy and has scored 43 goals in 54 appearances for them, 26 last season. He has netted 7 times for his country in 28 appearances. He was also named in UEFA Euro 2016 squad too, which was coached by Antonio Conte.
He has a great understanding of the game and runs into empty spaces cleverly. He possesses sublime movement. He is a force to be reckoned with inside the box as he has a noteworthy heading technique. Immobile is strong and always tests the centre-backs, runs at them and presses the opposition by not allowing any breathing space. He is gifted with first-class abilities on both feet.
It would be great if Chelsea signed him, as he is at his peak age and surely has 4-5 years of quality left in him. But, if Lazio are not willing to sell him, it is unnecessary to spend an entire transfer window chasing one player, as they did for Drinkwater. Michy Batshuayi can be trusted a little more in spite of a few shocking, lazy performances. The Belgian striker does have 8 goals in 14 matches this season and scores a goal every 74.8 minutes for Chelsea, a dazzling minutes-to-goals ratio.
So Conte go for him?
