Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez has been the subject of endless transfer speculation this summer. The 28-year old has entered the final year on his contract with Arsenal and so far, has been reluctant to sign an extension.
News that the Gunners star, who scored 30 goals and bagged 19 assists last season, is not keen to sign an extension has interested every major club around Europe. Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea have all been linked with the player with Manchester City believed to be the most likely destination if Sanchez were to make a move within the domestic league of England.
Sanchez has been in the form of his life for the last couple of seasons inspiring Arsenal to numerous victories that seemed difficult without him. The versatile Chilean winger can play on either wing or as a centre-forward if required. His low-centre of gravity coupled with his ability to take on defenders and leave for them dead has made him nearly unstoppable for opposition defenders.
He is currently one of the best attackers in the Premier League and hence Wenger’s decision to keep the Chilean winger for another year to regain Champions League status and possibly win the Europa League is justified, even though it might result in Arsenal losing their prized asset on a free transfer.
Chelsea have been lethargic, to say the least in the summer transfer market and reports coming out of Stamford Bridge say that the club is planning to reinvent their driving force making a move for Sanchez in the January window by going for the crème de la crème, in an attempt to keep hold of their talismanic Italian manager, Antonio Conte.
Should Sanchez make a move to the West London club, he will feature in a top three along with Alvaro Morata and Eden Hazard, a trio that would drive terror into the hearts of any Premier League defence.
The Stamford Bridge faithful will be dreaming of a possible combination play between Hazard and Sanchez and the duo, on their day, can rip apart defence to shreds. If Chelsea were to get Sanchez on their roster, Conte will be expected to have a fair crack at the Champions League trophy, a prize that has averted the English clubs since Chelsea last won it back in the 2011-12 season.
Chelsea could definitely do with a player like Sanchez up front especially since neither Pedro nor Willian look like they have the ability in them to take Chelsea to the pinnacle of any major trophy.
Moreover, the determination and the doggedness in the gameplay of the Chilean winger will surely make him a fan-favourite at the club. January could prove to be a tricky time for both London clubs as whoever ends up with Sanchez come February 1st will believe they have the players to target a major European trophy come May.
