Brighton were very unlucky not to get all three points and could only manage a 1-1 draw at home to Southampton. The Seagulls went behind to a Steven Davis tap in. Glenn Murray then equalised after heading in Pascal Gross’s cross. Here are the player ratings for Chris Hughton’s side in this stalemate:
Matthew Ryan (5):
Not an awful lot to do in the first half. Didn’t have anything to do in the second half.
Bruno Saltor (6):
Done well at getting down the wing and providing support to Anthony Knockaert down the right.
Lewis Dunk (6):
Made some great blocks to deny Dusan Tadic from doubling Southampton’s lead in the first half. In the second half he made some more good headers away and some good runs forward.
Shane Duffy (6):
Very solid again in the centre of defence done really well to head any crosses away. Put a shot just wide in the 72nd minute, was a real centre-half’s finish, unfortunately.
Gaetan Bong (6):
Got down the left flank well and caused problems in the first half with Jose Izquierdo down the left wing.
Anthony Knockaert (6):
Made a couple of nice runs in behind and down the flank his final ball let him down in the first half. In the second half, he was flying down the wing all half long and got involved tracking back.
Davy Pröpper (7):
Got stuck in midfield making great tackles and some good forward passes and runs to try and get Brighton on the front foot.
Made some nice passes and with Pröpper in the middle made some good interceptions.
Jose Izquierdo (7):
Caused real problems with his pace and willingness to make things happen in the first half and combined well with Bong down the left wing. Did well defensively, tracking back and making tackles. Replaced by Solly March in the 86th minute.
Pascal Gross (7):
Done well against some big physical centre-halves and defensive midfielders. Made some great movement and passes to try and get Albion back into the game in the first half. Great cross to set up Murray for the equaliser. Put another great cross 57th minute which Murray put wide. Replaced by Izzy Brown in the 83rd minute.
Glenn Murray (7):
Done well against the two big centre-halves hasn’t had much to feed off but is trying to get onto knockdowns. Great header in the 51st minute to equalise. Put Gross’s cross just wide of the right post 57 minutes in.
