Bournemouth have got a huge timely boost as striker Callum Wilson is set to return from a long injury spell. The 25 year old’s career has been marred by injuries and this was the second time he suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury in January against Crystal Palace.
Wilson’s return will definitely put a smile on Eddie Howe’s face, who has had a tough time in the Premier League. The Cherries have made a very slow start to life in the top tier and their forwards haven’t performed to the full force. Wilson’s return could provide the Cherries with some much-needed uplift which they badly needed following their miserable start. Howe has been with the club since 2008 and barring a season with Burnley, he has spent his entire career at the Vitality Stadium.
The young manager had a fairytale journey with the club so far. He guided them to two promotions in three seasons and also ensured they stay floating in the Premier League as they are now playing their third season in a row which is itself an achievement.
Wilson led the Cherries line from the front as he was the top scorer in the 2014/15 season in which year Bournemouth created history winning the Championship title to earn a promotion for the first time.
The former England U-21 international was supposed to bear the torch upfront but back to back injuries have marred his career. But now he is back in contention again. The 25-year-old will feature in the Premier League Cup against Norwich City for the Cherries reserves side and boss Eddie Howe will be monitoring his situation pretty closely.
The manager brought in Jermain Defoe in a bid to put an end to their attacking woes but things haven’t changed much as the former Sunderland player has been struggling to get into the groove since moving to the Vitality Stadium on a free transfer.
Wilson’s presence in the side will also ease pressure on Josh King who has been carrying the burden after being given the opportunity to lead the attack. Wilson has already shown that he can be productive if he is fit and Howe would like to unleash him once he becomes fully operational.
The manager would expect to get his side back on track soon and for that, Wilson needs to fire goals, which has been a missing in this season for Bournemouth. Can his return propel the side to a better campaign?
