Arsenal are determined to sign Napoli holding midfielder Jorginho after already having seen a bid of £15 million rejected earlier this summer. It is expected that Arsene Wenger will splash more cash to sign the star as he has been a fan of him, since 2015. His agent has boosted the French manager’s hopes by claiming that he could swap for a world class team, to some ‘right’ place.
Jorginho shifted to Italy at a young age and started his career at Verona’s youth setup. As soon as being signed up for the senior team, he was loaned out to Sambonifacese, where he was consistent and contributed with a goal in 33 appearances. He was called back to Hellas Verona and was a part of his boyhood club till 2014.
He lit up the stage of Serie A with newly promoted Scaligers, scoring 7 goals in 19 appearances. This was sure to attract other clubs, and Napoli won the race to sign him. He had struggled for starts due to stiff competition last season but is now an important member as they are in pursuit of a Serie A title.
He has scored 4 goals for Napoli all his career. For Italy, he has featured in just two friendlies and some fans could argue his country needs to give him a permanent berth in their team bus.
Jorginho is a quick, sharp and an accurate passer. This season, he has completed 100+ passes for 9 games in a row, the highest being 179 versus Cagliari. The Italian midfielder is always in the mix of things and dictates the play. He is a certain ball winner at the centre of the pitch and always proves to be a disruption to the opposition attack.
The midfield maestro is rightfully decisive in playing the long and diagonal passes. Having played as an attacking midfielder for Verona, he is quite versatile too.
With Santi Cazorla out due to injury and turning 33 this year, Arsenal need some consistency and stability at the heart of midfield. Jorgnho could be a title-winning addition to Arsene Wenger as Elneny is too defensive minded at times, often not participating in the forward play. Xhaka too has shown signs of switching off and ball watching in spite of being productive with his set pieces and passing.
Coquelin too, shows his quality only for short periods in the season, a sign which is below par for a team like Arsenal. So the Gunners must go an extra yard and try to sign Jorginho without worrying about his price or wages. But is he the right man for Arsenal?
