Crystal Palace will be desperate to get back to winning ways when they entertain West Ham United this weekend. The win against Chelsea was supposed to be the springboard from where their fortunes took a turn for the better but two defeats in consecutive matches, including the shambolic 4-1 loss against Bristol City in the Carabao Cup, has brought them to a do or die situation.
Their seven-match winless run came to a halt against the defending champions Chelsea but their performance against Newcastle United saw them return empty-handed from St James Park.
Their topsy-turvy campaign suffered another hiccup as their world came crashing down against Bristol City as the Championship side pumped in 4 goals past the hapless Eagles to oust them from the Carabao Cup.
On the other hand, West Ham United would be brimming with confidence following their brilliant comeback win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup. Slaven Bilic’s situation at the London Stadium has improved a bit but the danger of the sack is still looming and the Croatian would like to get full three points from this match to strengthen his position.
Predicted 4-4-2 Crystal Palace Starting Lineup Against West Ham United
Defence
Wayne Hennessey is likely to be reinstated to the starting lineup. Roy Hodgson has used Julian Speroni in the last few matches but the Welsh custodian is expected to return. Hennessey should use this chance to cement his place.
Joel Ward has been ever-present in the starting lineup and will retain his position.
Scott Dann and Mamadou Sakho will marshall the backline.
Patrick van Aanholt will start on the left side of the defence.
Midfield
Luka Milivojevic has brought a sense of optimism at the centre of the pitch and will be looking to create more opportunities for his side.
Yohan Cabaye looked very comfortable against Chelsea and would like to replicate that form against the Hammers.
Attack
James McArthur put a decent performance against Chelsea and can form a formidable partnership with Ward on the right-hand side.
Jeffrey Schulpp has been tested on the right wing by his gaffer and is likely to be stationed in the same position.
The dearth of a genuine goal poacher has created problems for Hodgson. Wilfried Zaha is expected to start in a more central role up front. Andros Townsend is likely to be his partner. These two have the ability to inject more energy with their performances and Hodgson would be hoping for some fireworks.
