Swansea City will be hoping to get back to winning ways when they host Manchester United in the Carabao Cup Round of 16 at the Liberty Stadium.
The Swans are on the back of a narrow 2-1 defeat at the hand of Leicester City while Manchester United got a shocking reception at the John Smith’s Stadium as Huddersfield Town edged them out by the same scoreline.
This is the first defeat for Jose Mourinho’s side this season and the manager is expected to pick up a number of changes in this fixture to avoid any further defeat. The Red Devils are the defending champions of this tournament having edged out Southampton 3-2 in the final last season and will be hoping to repeat the feat.
Swansea have been very inconsistent under Paul Clement this term but they can be very incisive at times. This will be Swansea’s second encounter with Mourinho’s side this season after they were brutally hammered by the Red Devils 4-0 in the Premier League and will be hoping to avenge the loss.
Predicted 4-3-3 Swansea City Starting Lineup Against Manchester United
Defence
Kristoffer Nordfeldt started the last two matches in the Carabao Cup and Clement should opt for him in a bid to provide Lukasz Fabianski with a much-needed rest.
Alfie Mawson will keep his place in the backline but he is likely to have a new partner in Mike van der Hoorn. The 24-year-old played in the Carabao Cup before and will be gearing up for a fresh challenge against Man United.
Martin Olsson has so far provided a good shape on the left side and is expected to make it to the side. Veteran right-back Angel Rangel will be on the right side.
Midfield
Clement could spring up a number of changes in the midfield to contain a strong United side. Roque Mesa is destined for a start in the base of the midfield and he will have the charge to lead the team from the deep.
Leroy Fer will be returning from suspension and Clement is expected him to unleash in this crucial encounter. He will pair up with Renato Sanches to stimulate the midfield.
Attack
Jordan Ayew should get the nod on the left flank. He will be joined by Luciano Narsingh on the opposite side. Wilfried Bony is nursing a hamstring injury so the onus will be on Tammy Abraham who has finally started to find his rhythm back.
