Southampton are currently standing in the tenth position, having won three matches, while drawing three and losing the other three out of their first nine matches so far this season in the Premier League. Their last match saw them bag their third win of the season with a 1-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion.
The Saints are looking pretty inconsistent this season and are looking forward to making the most of the forthcoming fixtures and bag as many points as possible. They will look to do the same against their next opponents Brighton and will aim for nothing less than three points.
However, the Seagulls will not be an easy lot to deal with, as they have already shown in their debut season in the top flight by beating teams like Everton, Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion. Southampton will have to be cautious in their approach when they face them.
The South Coast Club might look to line up in the following way in their next match.
Defence
The Southampton defence performed well in their last match in the Premier League against West Bromwich Albion to scrape out a win. They will be up for another challenge when they take on Brighton, who looked sharp in their last match against the Hammers.
While Cedric Soares and Ryan Bertrand will take charge of the defence on the right and left sides respectively, the heart of the defence will have to be kept secure by the towering presence of Virgil Van Dijk and Maya Yoshida to keep the opposition at bay.
Fraser Forster will once again start in the goal for his side.
Midfield
The four-man midfield, with Mario Lemina, Oriol Romeu, Steven Davis and Dusan Tadic will need to deliver passes and crosses into the final third in order to help their forwards score goals and get three much-needed points in their bag.
However, it will not be a very easy task for the players, as their immediate opponents, Brighton also have a strong presence in the midfield. The goalscorer from their last encounter, Sofiane Boufal, is expected to start from the bench once again.
Attack
The Saints will be going in with their two forwards Shane Long and Manolo Gabbiadini in this match. Gabbiadini has performed well so far this season and will look to add to his goal tally of three so far this season.
This is how they might line up:
