Leeds United will have the chance to cut back the gap in the Championship points table to one point with Sheffield United when they host the Blades tomorrow in a crunch game in the Championship.
Following a thumping win over Bristol City, Thomas Christiansen’s men will be determined to back up their victory in the previous game to keep their dream of promotion alive. They will hope that their disappointing result in the Carabao Cup against Leicester City will not have too much of an effect on their run in the domestic league.
After three consecutive losses, the Whites got back to winning ways in the last match and they do have all the resources to get the better of Blades who are a place up of the Whites. Sheffield could claim the top position if they manage to grind out a result in their favour.
Christiansen needs a solid strategy and has to ensure they don’t lose concentration. They missed out on a playoff spot last season and they just cannot afford to do the same mistakes this season.
Predicted 4-2-3-1 Leeds United Starting Lineup Vs Sheffield United
Defence
Andy Lonergan kept a clean sheet in the last match and the gaffer might not want to break the winning combination. So if everything goes right the 34-year-old is likely to be in the goal.
Pontus Jansson is pushing for a start but Matthew Pennigton was one of the standout players against Bristol City and is expected to get a start. Liam Cooper is likely to stick to his place. Gaetano Berardi got the marching order in the 3-0 win and Vurnon Anita is likely to fill in his place.
Luke Ayling will be on the right side of the defence.
Midfield
Kalvin Phillips needs to be a little witty with his game plan. He has been a constant part of the manager’s plan this season and will start again. Eunan O’Kane didn’t play a part in Leeds’ defeat in the Carabao Cup so he should be fresh.
Ronaldo Vieira’s ability to let the ball talk has earned plaudits this season. The 19-year-old has seen his potential skyrocketed following his impressive run in the midfield.
Attack
Samu Saiz scored a brace in the last match and will get the opportunity to add a few more to his belt. Ezgjan Alioski’s form has opened the floodgates for the Whites. He will operate from the right channel.
Pierre-Michel Lasogga has been an instant hit at the Elland Road and will try to latch on opportunities to maintain his strong from this season. Here is how they might line up:
