Everton are currently facing a tumultuous situation in the Premier League, given their dismal performance so far this season. This has led to the sacking of their coach Ronald Koeman, who was relieved of his job after their last match against Arsenal that ended in an embarrassing 5-2 defeat for the Toffees.
The Merseyside club, who will now be taking the field under the stewardship of their youth team coach David Unsworth, are eyeing redemption. However, it is not going to be an easy fixture for them in the future as they will be facing reigning Premier League champions Chelsea as their immediate opponents in the Carabao Cup.
Despite a number of talented players in their side, most of whom were brought in during the summer transfer window, the Toffees have failed to gain the impetus they needed to finish as one of the top teams in the Premier League this season. However, they will look to make amends for their mistakes in the Carabao Cup and turn the result in their favour by giving a tough time to the Blues in their own backyard.
Everton might look to line up like this under their interim manager David Unsworth.
Defence
The Toffees might look to start with four men in the backline for their next match, with the three men defensive system not showing enough grit. The heart of the defence might feature the likes of Phil Jagielka and Micheal Keane, while the left and right flanks might be covered by Leighton Baines and Mason Holgate.
Maarten Stekelenburg might be the one to feature under the crossbars for the Toffees.
Midfield
The Toffees might deploy five men in their midfield, with the likes of Morgan Schneiderlin and Idrissa Gana Gueye guarding the backline. The three men who will be a part of the attacking midfield might be Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Nicola Vlasic on the wings and Tom Davies supporting the main striker.
It will be imperative for the midfielders to play out of their skins and help their side to get goals if they are to stand a chance against the Blues.
Attack
The Senegalese forward Oumar Niasse might be the one to spearhead the attack for the Toffees in their next match. He scored twice in their last encounter in the Carabao Cup against Sunderland to hand them a 3-0 win and will be expected to do the same against Chelsea as well.
Here is how they might line up:
