Liverpool have been at their best in the first three matches of the new season, having already scored eight goals in the season, courtesy of their attacking trio of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, who have been in destructive form and have already got more than one goal under their belt in the new season.
The man in charge at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp, has been more than happy with the fact that his “gegenpressing” attacking style is a hit and all his forwards are coming out all guns blazing against their opponents. The German tactician showed his attacking intent in the last term and made it clear that he is not a fan of water bound defensive tactics.
In the last season, with the Senegalese international Mane missing a chunk of the action with an injury, the Reds were dependent on their prime weapon Phillipe Coutinho. The Brazilian dazzler took the onus of making his team finish in a respectable position on the league table and spearheaded the attack along with his compatriot Firmino to take them into the top four of the Premier League.
However, the story has not been the same in this season so far, with Coutinho nursing an injury, which has kept him away from the action. Moreover, he was heavily linked with a move to the Spanish club Barcelona, with the Blaugrana looking to bring in someone eligible enough to replace their Brazilian superstar Neymar who went on to join the French giants Paris Saint Germain this summer for a world record transfer fee.
Coutinho tried his level best to force his way out of the club and start a new chapter in his career with the former La Liga champions. But to his grave disappointment, the move was scuppered by the Reds, who were in no mood to let go off their prized possession. They went on to reject all the bids made by the Spanish giants in order to get their desired candidate in their team, putting up a “Not for Sale” tag on the Brazilian attacker.
Now that the new season has already started and Coutinho is also back from his injury, it is going to be tough for the German mastermind to make a choice regarding the composition of his frontline in the forthcoming matches.
However, if given the chance to feature in the attacking lineup, Coutinho should leave his disappointment involving the move to Barcelona behind and start showing the world the reason behind his adoration at the Merseyside club, displaying his top class form once again for the Reds.
