Spurs survived a late onslaught from West Ham United to take all three points from their controversial encounter at the London stadium. The Hammers started the game decently but went 2-0 behind in the first half itself, courtesy of an excellent header and a tap-in from Harry Kane.
Eriksen made the matters worse for West Ham as he got the third one for Spurs in the second half. Chicharito Hernandez pulled one back 5 minutes after Eriksen’s goal. Cheikhou Kouyate scored another one in the 86th minute to script a potential comeback for West Ham but Spurs did well to hold on to the slim lead and went on to take all three points from the London stadium. Below are West Ham United’s individual player ratings:
Joe Hart:
Rating:6
Hart couldn’t have really done much about any of the three goals but has continued to concede a lot of goals in the first few games itself.
Pablo Zabaleta:
Rating:6.5
Zabaleta wasn’t much influential offensively but was defensively quite solid.
Jose Fonte:
Rating:6
Fonte did quite well in the first half as he made some vital interceptions and blocks. As the game progressed, Tottenham’s front three began to find a lot of space behind the centre-back.
Winston Reid:
Rating:8.5
Reid had an excellent game and gave absolutely everything to keep the score-line respectable.
Angela Ogbonna:
Rating:6
Ogbonna made some very good tackles but had a hard time dealing with Alli’s runs down the right.
Aaron Cresswell:
Rating:5.5
Creswell was guilty of being out of position for Tottenham’s second goal. He also wasn’t that much of an offensive threat.
Mark Noble:
Rating:7
Mark Noble gave two excellent through balls in the first half and often got the better of Tottenham’s midfield on numerous occasions.
Cheikhou Kouyate:
Rating:7.5
Scored an excellent goal through a thumping header late in the second half and his midfield performance was also quite decent.
Michail Antonio:
Rating:5
Antonio was subbed-off in the 27th minute itself after he pulled a muscle.
Chicharito Hernandez:
Rating:7.5
Hernandez ran his lungs out, chasing a lot of lost causes. He also scored an excellent goal in the 65th minute to give the Hammers some hope.
Marko Arnautovic:
Rating:6
Arnautovic’s influence faded as the game progressed but had a few good early minutes.
Substitutes:
Andy Carrol:
Rating:6.5
Carrol’s arrival troubled Tottenham’s centre-backs quite a bit but lost possession of the ball too many times.
Andre Ayew:
Rating:5.5
Ayew had a really average game as he failed to offer anything creative offensively.
Arthur Musuaku:
Rating:7
Musuaku’s introduction breathed life into West Ham and he also delivered an excellent cross for Kouyate’s goal.
