West Ham United had their hands full in the summer transfer window as the Hammers had one of the busiest transfer windows in the last few seasons. Slaven Bilic ringed in a number of changes but the decisive moment is yet to come as none of his summer signings have performed to that level.
There was some serious threat to Bilic’s job following West Ham’s dismal start to this season but as of now, things are under control and if the scenario goes like this, Bilic could have a more strong impact at the London Stadium than last year. The Croatian boss has already started to chalk his transfer plan for the next winter transfer window and has reportedly identified Bologna duo Simone Verdi and Adam Masina as his primary targets.
Verdi is a 25-year-old attacking minded player while Masina is a 23-year-old left back. Currently, the Hammers are lacking quality players in these two departments and Bilic has his eyes set on these two Italian players. Serie A has been the breeding home for talented players in the last few seasons. The Italian top tier has supplied players to clubs all around the globe pretty selfishly.
The Hammers are considering some serious overhaul in January keeping in mind the serious completion in the Premier League. The club are currently under severe pressure to deliver and Bilic has already pointed out the loopholes.
Both these players have been outstanding in their respective position. Verdi arrived at Bologna from AC Milan last season and during his time at the Sansiro, he has been likened to Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola. The attacking midfielder can be stationed anywhere across the front three and has been consistent since arriving at this club.
Somewhere down the line, the Hammers have struggled with their left back option. Both Aaron Creswell and Arthur Masuaku had their problems, which has troubled them in a much bigger way. Mesina could be a solution to their woes. The 23-year-old is young, pacey has the knowledge of astute defending and if needed, can be used as a more attacking wingback.
Bologna played a well fought 1-1 draw with Inter Milan last week with both these players taking a crucial part in this game. Bilic is ready for a double swoop in the winter and if he is able to take these players to England, the Hammers will certainly get an upgrade sooner or later.
