West Bromwich Albion have started the present season strongly, having drawn one and won two of their first three matches of the campaign. They have conceded only one goal so far in the competition, which is proof enough of their defensive dominance in the Premier League.
The Baggies are well known for their strong defensive lineup and were successful in getting into the top ten of the league table due to some brilliant displays from the players in the backline. Among them, the name that comes right on the top of the team’s priority list is that of the Northern Ireland international Jonny Evans.
The player has been nothing less than a rock in the defence for the Baggies and has brought in the much-needed sense of urgency among his colleagues while clearing a ball from a dangerous position or going into tackles. His physical presence on his own as well as the opposition box has been a matter of concern for the opposition since his arrival at the Hawthorns and has attracted interests from a number of opposition clubs in the Premier League.
The 29-year-old joined West Brom in 2015 from fellow Premier League club Manchester United and quickly took up the responsibility of strengthening the defence for the Baggies. His contract is due to expire at the end of the season and the man in charge at the Hawthorns, Tony Pulis, is looking forward to making him sign a new contract, so that he can keep hold of his prized possession for some more time.
Since the departure of his former colleague and ex-skipper Darren Fletcher, Evans has also taken the onus to lead the team and has performed exceedingly well so far in the new role. However, he has not yet put his signature on the new contract with his present club, which has irked the possibility of him leaving in the forthcoming days.
This has attracted the attention from a number of clubs in the Premier League including biggies like Manchester City and former champions Leicester City, who targeted the player for a swoop in the recently concluded transfer window this summer.
However, the player has opted to stay back with the Baggies for the time being and might put down his signature on a new contract, which might be the right decision as far his career is concerned, as he is sure to remain the star of the show for West Bromwich Albion in the forthcoming days as well. So should he sign the new deal?
