Chicharito Hernandez’s goal in the 65th minute kickstarted a potential West Ham comeback. To make the matters worse for Tottenham, Serge Aurier was sent off after receiving two yellows. Cheikhou Kouyate got in another goal but this didn’t prove enough as Spurs nervously managed to hold on. Below are Tottenham’s player ratings:
Hugo Lloris:
Rating:7
The Frenchman did really well to get off the line to kill some chances in their infancy and couldn’t have done any better in either of the West Ham’s goals.
Serge Aurier:
Rating:6
Aurier did really well till the time he was there on the pitch and even made some vital possession retaining tackles. It was quite foolish of him to go for the second challenge with such commitment after he had already received a yellow. His red-card is what made West Ham’s comeback possible.
Toby Alderweireld:
Rating:7.5
Alderweireld made some excellent interceptions but was troubled a little after West Ham changed their attacking approach.
Davinson Sanchez:
Rating:7
Sanchez made a vital interception which could have been a certain goal. Carrol’s introduction made the things a lot harder for the 21-year-old.
Jan Vertonghen:
Rating:8
Vertonghen made a rampaging run through the middle and made a pass to Alli who put in a wonderful cross to Harry Kane for Tottenham’s second goal. He was also an important figure for Spurs defensively.
Ben Davies:
Rating:7
Had a decent game and had some good physical duels with Pablo Zabaleta and Michail Antonio.
Eric Dier:
Rating:7
Dier had a mixed game as he made some decent tackles but wasn’t really able to keep Mark Noble quiet.
Moussa Sissoko:
Rating:7
Sissoko too had a decent game and was quite involved in the game. There was a perceptible reduction in his tendency to side pass.
Christian Eriksen:
Rating:8
Eriksen had an excellent game and provided a lot of key passes. He also got the third goal for Tottenham as he fired a decent strike towards the bottom right corner.
Dele Alli:
Rating:7.5
Alli gave an excellent cross for Kane’s first goal. He made some good runs but eventually lost the ball with West Ham defending in numbers.
Harry Kane:
Rating:8.5
Kane scored two excellent first-half goals for Tottenham. Kane headed the first one from Alli’s cross and also tapped home after Alli’s deflected effort fell to him.
Substitutes:
Harry Winks:
Rating:7.5
Winks made a few decent runs and helped Tottenham to maintain the lead by wasting time.
Kieran Trippier:
Rating:6.5
Trippier came on in the 78th minute and had an average game. Musuaku troubled him quite lot through the wide area.
Fernando Llorente:
Rating:7
Llorente came on very late in the game and held the ball upfield quite well for time wasting. He received a yellow for his coming together in the added time.
