Everton have made an unexpected start to this season as the Toffees tumbled in the Premier League following a busy summer at the Goodison Park. Ronald Koeman’ was supposed to take the side to a different level but despite investing so much during the summer, he hasn’t been able to get the best out of his new signings.
Everton are still recovering from the departure of Romelu Lukaku. The talismanic Belgian left the Goodison Park for Manchester United this summer and Koeman hasn’t been able to fill the void vacated by him.
He has brought in Sandro Ramirez and Wayne Rooney but both the players are yet to get into their skin and it seems the Merseyside club desperately needs a man up front.
According to reports, Everton have made an enquiry about the availability of Sporting Lisbon forward. The 29-year-old has been pretty convincing and Koeman thinks he could be an able replacement of Lukaku.
Doumbia is well acquainted with the difficulties of the Premier League having plied his trade for Newcastle United in the latter part of the 2015/16 season. He failed to score that time but given his current form, he might be able to fulfil his earlier expectations.
Despite only arriving in this summer the striker has a release clause of whopping £55m. The player was initially on loan from AS Roma this summer but there was a clause in the contract which made him a Sporting Lisbon player since he appeared in his first match for the Portuguese giants.
Although Wayne Rooney has shown flashes of excellence he doesn’t seem to be the future of Everton forward lineup. Sandro clearly needs time to adapt to the condition of the England so the gaffer needs some assurance upfront.
The player had a brilliant loan spell for FC Basel last season where he found the net 20 times. He is yet to open his account in the Portuguese top tier but already has netted in the Champions League. The 29-year-old a pretty illustrious CV and has played at a number of big clubs with the likes of CSKA Moskow and Newcastle. He has a contract till 2020 and will be depending on him if he is ready or not to give his career a push.
The Ivorian centre-forward can also be stationed on the flanks and it would be a good opportunity for him to have a shot in the Premier League.
