This is probably the first time Manchester United haven’t been linked with many players on the deadline day. The Red Devils have done their shopping early this summer by bringing in Nemanja Matic, Romelu Lukaku and Victor Lindelof.
The Red Devils did pursue some players with active interest but it seems Jose Mourinho is pretty happy with the squad he has got at his disposal. United started the season very brightly as both Lukaku and Matic transmitted their influence to the side quite brilliantly.
Now let’s take a look how Jose Mourinho could field his starting lineup with the new signings this season.
Manchester United 4-2-3-1 Starting Lineup
Defence
David De Gea has had a very deep impact since his arrival at the Old Trafford. The Spanish custodian took a little time to adjust to the English condition but once he settled in he has made it sure his position remains intact in the goal.
Eric Bailly has been the stand out performer in the defence so far. The Ivorian international is known for his no-nonsense defending in the backline and is a very cool customer when it comes to handling a difficult situation.
Victor Lindelof is yet to be tested but given his morale and confidence, he is expected to be an instant hit at the Old Trafford.
Daley Blind is inconsistent at times but his biggest strength is his vision. The Dutch international lacks pace but he can make up with that with his resolute defending and acute crossing.
Antonio Valencia has been a complete transformation in the last few years and has established himself as a regular member of the starting lineup.
Midfield
Paul Pogba had a quite on and off last season as he didn’t have the kind of performance what everyone would have been hoping for. He also had to contribute defensively which affected his performance quite heavily.
The arrival of Nemanja Matic will definitely give more freedom to Pogba to roam around the pitch. The Serbian midfielder enforcer will work as a barrier to give the backline an extra amount of assurance.
Attack
Henrikh Mkhitaryan has already registered five assists in three matches in this season so far and is looking pretty dangerous. He will start from the right flank.
Juan Mata has been a pivotal part of Jose Mourinho’s setup and he is destined to start from the no.10 position.
Anthony Martial’s spirited performance should be enough for him to earn a starting berth. Romelu Lukaku will spearhead the Red Devils attacking line.
