Scottish Premiership outfit Rangers are undergoing through a phase of transition under the tutelage of Pedro Caixinha. After a forgettable season last time around, the Gers are keen to mount a substantial challenge for the domestic silverwares this time around and in order to do so, they cultivated a fairly productive transfer window and chalked out some decent permanent signings as well as loan deals. One of the players who has been lured to the Ibrox Stadium this summer on loan is Dalcio.
Dalcio has represented Belenenses and Benfica B and was snapped up by Caixinha to beef up his arsenal. However, his performances in the Rangers shirt hasn’t been appealing ones. The Light Blues crashed out of the Europa League after getting defeated by Progres Niederkorn by a 2-0 score line in the second leg (with the first leg ending in a 1-0 win for the Glasgow giants), which resulted in a 2-1 aggregate win for the Luxembourg based outfit and Dalcio was used in both of these games.
The Portuguese youngster was handed a full ninety minutes outing in the first leg and was sent on for the second half in the second leg, but the winger put forth erratic shows and voices of discontentment started to surface from various nooks and corners. Although the lack of match fitness was also to be blamed, the 21-year-old’s decision-making skills allowed a lot of fingers to be pointing at his credibility and calibre.
But then, Dalcio is needed to be dealt with utmost patience. The animosity in the Scottish Premiership as well as the Europa League is humungous and considering that the Portuguese U20 winger is completely new to these kinds of competitions, the former Al-Gharafa boss shouldn’t write him off already. He is yet to settle properly at his new club and in order to do so, he needs to make the most of the opportunities he is handed by Caixinha this season.
Dalcio is a decent player and it is his raw pace that allows him to blast forward to trouble the opposition’s defenders. He is more of a transporter and instead of making contributions himself in the final third, he generally passes the ball to his teammates to do the aforesaid things. But then, he does cater to the offensive as well as the defensive needs of his side. However, he does lack experience and thus, he should be brushed up by Caixinha by pencilling him on the pitch whenever situations permit to drive the best out of him.
