Championship outfit Nottingham Forest were very close to demoting themselves to League One last season. The Tricky Trees loitered aimlessly in the lower half of the league table with very little happiness to offer to their fans last season, until Mark Warburton’s reign kicked off. The former Rangers manager somehow managed to keep them inside the rendezvous zone as they finished 21st in the league with 51 points and it was their goal difference in comparison to Blackburn Rovers which saved them.
However, the new season has been a decent one for the Reds so far, so has been the summer transfer window. Under the stewardship of Warburton, Nottingham Forest chalked out some shrewd deals and have lured the likes of Daryl Murphy, Liam Bridcutt and Barrie McKay to the City Ground and have also managed to pile 9 points in 6 appearances in the English second division with his troops. Although the season is a long one, their initial glimpses have been really promising and appealing.
One of the players Warburton was keen to rope into his ranks was Hibernian’s talented midfielder, John McGinn. Forest made three bids to tempt the Hibs to enable his exit from the Easter Road.
It was perceived that the English side tabled an offer of £1.5million, but any sort of conclusion failed to materialize between the two clubs involved with respect to the transfer fee. Nonetheless, it has been reported of late that Nottingham Forest would renew their interest to sign McGinn and would pursue him during the January transfer window.
The Scottish international would unarguably be an astute signing for Nottingham Forest, for he has thrived in the central midfield and contributed his part in ensuring that the Hibees earn a promotion to the Scottish Premiership last season. Over the course of his career, he has indeed put his grit on display and has knitted his side meticulously with his exquisite passing range and vision. McGinn is a modern-day footballer who really doesn’t refrain from shouldering responsibilities entrusted to him.
Forest were desperately looking to bag someone who is strong, willing to maraud forward and creates plenty of chances for his teammates, and McGinn fits the bill.
He toils relentlessly throughout the pitch and apart from his offensive endeavours, he also cushions the backline and launches himself into making well-timed tackles and interceptions. Having failed to make him sign on the dotted line this summer, it would thus make complete sense from Warburton to go for him in the January transfer window.
