Newcastle United are gradually clawing their way back into the top flight, having earned a place in the Premier League after spending the last term in the Championship and eventually winning it.
They started off with a couple of losses at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur and Huddersfield Town in their first two matches but have won their last three matches against West Ham United, Crystal Palace, and Swansea City to make a remarkable comeback in the season.
The man in charge at St James Park, Rafa Benitez, who became furious with his club management after the first two embarrassing losses in the new Premier League season, has been appeased with the recent performances of his team especially the defenders and the goalkeeper Rob Elliot, who kept two clean sheets in two consecutive matches.
However, he has not yet stopped thinking about bringing in new players to add to the strength of the side and presently has his eyes on the Paris Saint Germain shot stopper Alphonse Areola.
The 24-year-old Frenchman has carved a niche for himself in the first team for his present side and is being hailed to have a very promising future for him with the former French champions.
Since his arrival at the club in 2010, he has been sent to play for a number of clubs in Europe including the Spanish giants Valencia, which has given him good enough experience in the top flight and has helped him emerge as a substantial figure beneath the crossbars at Parc Des Princes.
The Magpies coach has been a big fan of the abilities of the brilliant French custodian and is eyeing a move for him so that the player can be brought into the side in the winter transfer window. Benitez will be excited about the prospect of getting the player into his side, as he is aware of the fact that the player might himself be eyeing a move away from the French outfit in search of a defining career.
Areola is quite sure that it will not be too late for the first choice goalkeeper of the side, Kevin Trapp to make it back into the side, which will make him sit on the sidelines once again. The 24-year-old is thus in search for a club which will give him the chance to feature in their first team on a regular basis, and Newcastle United looks to be the perfect destination for him. But can Rafa land him?
