Manchester United have started their season right on the top of their form winning all the three matches so far. They have shown ominous attacking intent and have scored 10 goals so far this season, with their new look lineup consisting of the second highest goal scorer from the last season, Romelu Lukaku, who has scored three goals so far and is proving his worth at his new club.
Though they have one of the best attacks in the current situation, Manchester United could have strengthened it even more and gone to another attacker to their lineup in the form of Riyad Mahrez from fellow Premier League club Leicester City. The Red Devils had the opportunity to sign him but Jose Mourinho reportedly could not seal the deal on the deadline day.
The Algerian winger has been one of the best players in the Premier League in the recent times and also received the award for the PFA Best Player of the Year for his gallant performance in the 2015/16 season, in which he led his team to win the Premier League for the first time in their history. However, the player could not carry his form in the 2016/17 season and had to settle for only three goals compared to the eleven in Leicester City’s Premier League winning season, with the Foxes finishing on a lowly twelfth position on the league table.
That, however, did not demean the value of the player in the transfer market and he was in demand from a number of big name clubs from the Premier League as well as other European leagues, including the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, and Italian outfit Roma. However, none of the moves materialized and the player will stay put at the King Power Stadium.
On the deadline day though, there was a chance for the winger to switch the Blues of Leicester City with the crimson of Manchester United, as he flew in from his national team camp to finalize a move out to Old Trafford, which unfortunately did not materialize.
The Algerian international would surely have made a fine addition to the Manchester United lineup, delivering pinpoint passes and delightful crosses into the attacking third of the opposition to provide his teammates with goalscoring opportunities. He could also have unleashed an array of shots with absolute precision onto the opposition goal to find the back of the net and make it possible for the Red Devils to stay in advantage.
