Liverpool have started their campaign in the Premier League this year in a very strong way, having won two of their first three matches so far. Their last win came against arch rivals Arsenal in their own backyard, with the Reds demolishing the Gunners by 4-0 in a blistering display of pace and prowess. All their forwards, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge, who came on a substitute got goals to boost their confidence for the rest of the season.
The present man in charge at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp, has never been a fan of water bound defensive tactics and has always relied on his front line to bring success to the team. He has also looked to keep his midfield strong enough to fend off opposition attacks and supply quality balls into the opposition box on a constant basis. This season as well, he has his eyes on a player, who is considered to be one of the top class players in a central midfield role, Rafinha.
The 24 year old Brazilian, who is currently playing for the former Spanish champions Barcelona is on the radar of the Merseyside club as of recently, as they are searching for new options to strengthen their midfield. The Reds will be playing in the Champions League this term, which makes it even more crucial to bring in a top class enforcer into the side, who can face the might of some of the best attackers in Europe.
Rafinha has been a part of the Blaugrana since his youth career and has starred for their team “B” for quite some time before heading into the senior side in 2013. He has made 78 appearances so far for the Catalan giants since his inclusion in the senior side and has shown good composure in the middle of the pitch to keep lion’s share of the ball possession to himself. His physical presence has helped with the defensive duties by keeping the opposition attackers at bay as much as possible.
However, the Brazilian has been pushed down the pecking order and has been restricted to bits and pieces appearances for the side in the recent times. This has made him search for other options, out of which Liverpool, in the current situation, looks to be the most viable for him.
The Reds are in need of a central midfielder who might pair with the English international Jordan Henderson in the middle of the pitch and create a defensive screen in front of the backline, for which the 24-year-old can be the perfect candidate to fit their bill. So a bid might be imminent in January.
