Wilfried Bony has started his proceedings in a Swansea City shirt as he registered his first goal since he has been resigned by the club from Manchester City. Bony has been with the Swansea U23 squad as he has been trying to get back to shape to feature in the match day squad. He helped the Swans to register their first win the Premier League 2 as they blanked Derby County 5-2.
Swansea lost Fernando Llorente to Tottenham Hotspur but their answer was ready as they already had their target man back at the Liberty Stadium. The Ivorian international expressed his interest in returning back to the Wales and Clement fulfilled his desire by calling him back to where he used to belong.
Bony saw some minutes in the 1-0 loss against Newcastle United but he was clearly struggling to find his feet. He was involved in some nice moves which could be the indication that if he is given a bit of time, he can replicate his previous form for what he was brought back to the Liberty Stadium.
The forward was not used regularly at the Etihad Stadium and given the current competition in the English top tier, he has been told to lift his fitness in an order to fit into the starting lineup. Following the departure of Gylfi Sigurdsson and Llorente, Swansea have become toothless in the attacking department and they need to buckle up with Bony being the primary option for them.
The 28-year-old made his name during his stint at the Liberty Stadium and has all the ingredients in him to get his team back to life again. Bony was on the field for 63 minutes and Paul Clement will be quite happy with his transition. The hit man made some twist and turns and also his build up play will certainly boost the confidence of the Swansea supporters.
The Swans will be travelling to Wembley to face a jubilant Tottenham Hotspur this weekend and this could be Bony’s first acid test in this season. He needs a long run to stay in the hunt and he can start with this game. He can easily form a fearsome pair with Tammy Abraham and can run havoc in the opposition defence.
He will feel the heat to deliver once he becomes fully operational and Clement will rely heavily on him to gear up for the challenge. Everybody will be hoping to watch the old Wilfried Bony who became a crowd puller at the Liberty Stadium. But does he still have it in him?
