Fantasy football returns on Saturday the 9th of September after the International break and there are some huge games this weekend. Manchester City and Liverpool face off in Saturday’s early kickoff. Tottenham Hotspur travel to Everton, Chelsea travel to Leicester and Manchester United take on Stoke City.
Elsewhere Arsenal host Bournemouth, Brighton take on West Brom, Southampton faces Watford, Crystal Palace travel to Burnley and Swansea take on Newcastle United.
But with so many tight games coming up this weekend, who should be in your FPL team. Here are three suggestions.
Eric Bailly (£6.1)
Manchester United have been the talking point of the Premier League so far this season. While it is only early, they are also now considered favourites for the title. A big money move for Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United has made United’s attacking threat the main talking point. Especially when they have managed to score 10 goals in three league games this season.
However, what has been somewhat over looked by many this season is United’s rock solid defence. So far this season United have played three league games and not conceded a single goal. One of only two teams in the Premier League to do that this season, Huddersfield Town the other.
One man who has played a big part in United not conceding a league goal is Ivory Coast centre back Eric Bailly. Bailly struggled slightly last season at United missing games through injury and also through the African Cup of Nations. However, this season so far, he has been a rock at the back and a leader in United’s defence. As well as the three clean sheets, Bailly has also pitched in with a goal in United’s 4-0 win over Swansea. So as well as getting you clean sheets he will also score the odd goal now and again.
As of right now, he top’s the defender’s leader board in FPL. Which tells you how good a signing he would be for your team. Manchester United look to be strong title contenders this year. So, having one of their best defenders in your FPL will surely not be a bad thing.
Mathias Jørgensen (£4.6)
Huddersfield Town were promoted from the Championship last season by winning the playoffs without one of their players scoring a goal. So, many people excepted to fail miserably in the Premier League and return straight to the Championship.
But if the start of this season is any indication, they are going to do the exact opposite. So far this season David Wagner’s men are undefeated in the Premier League, winning two and drawing one. Two of the main reasons for this are firstly their solid defensive work and secondly their new signings. A player who falls into both of those categories is Mathias Jørgensen also known as Zanka, who you should definitely have in your FPL team.
Huddersfield signed Zanka earlier this summer from FC Copenhagen for just £2.4 million and what a buy he has been so far. With help from Zanka Huddersfield have not conceded a goal in the league this season. Only Manchester United, mentioned above, have also done this which shows how good Huddersfield have been at the back.
Zanka also costs just 4.6 on FPL. This is a real bargain and the type of price you normally pay for a substitute, not someone who is going to get three clean sheets on the bounce a long with an assist.
Huddersfield travels to West Ham in GW4 and given West Ham’s troubled start to the season, Huddersfield could well keep another clean sheet for a 4th week in a row.
Alvaro Morata (£10.1)
The final pick in this week’s FPL article is another new signing. Alvaro Morata recently arrived at Chelsea for a club record fee. Since his arrival, both he and Chelsea have been coming under criticism from the footballing world.
But whatever problems Antonio Conte and Chelsea are facing, Morata has certainly answered his critics. So far this season Morata has made three league appearances, one as a sub against Burnley. In those three appearances, he has managed to score two goals and also earned two assists. This shows what a top striker he is as, despite all the problems Chelsea are facing both on and off the pitch, Morata is performing exceptionally.
Furthermore, Morata has been performing well this season without the help of last season’s star Chelsea player, Eden Hazard. Hazard missed the start of the season with an injury which was a huge blow to Chelsea. But over the international break Hazard started for Belgium in their 9-0 thrashing of Gibraltar. He earned a goal and assist before being subbed off in the 77th minute. But now he is back fit he will be back in the starting lineup and could well form a frightening partnership with Morata.
Morata is also available for just 10.1. Given he is likely to be one of the league’s top scorers this season, 10.1 is a bargain. Especially when you look at his counterparts like Romelu Lukaku who costs 11.7 and Harry Kane who costs 12.5, Morata is a real steal.
