This season might not have started well for Everton but the Toffees have been linked with a number of players. Keeping the current conditions in mind, Ronald Koeman has already his plan ready for January, when the transfer window opens again for a month.
According to reports, Koeman is very interested in Charlton Athletic youngster Ezri Konsa. The central defender is now one of the most promising youngsters in the country and has attracted a number of clubs. The young prodigy was one of the influential figures behind England’s sensational U-20 World Cup triumph.
He has been sporadically used by manager Karl Robinson this season as Charlton had a pretty good start to their League One campaign. He has a contract till 2020 and Charlton would love to tie him to a new long-term contract but the club knows that if a better offer comes, they would be forced to sell him as they don’t have the financial muscle to match their demands.
Charlton sold Ademola Lookman to Everton and Joe Gomez to Liverpool and the youngster might follow the suit. The lure of playing in the top tier is too hot to ignore and in this case, it could be the same.
Everton currently have a host of young players with the likes of Jonjoe Kenny, Callum Connolly, Ademola Lookman, Kieran Dowell and Dominic Calvert-Lewin who played their part in England’s dominance in the U-20 World Cup held in South Korea recently.
Koeman is painting a bigger picture at the Goodison Park as he wants to build a team surrounded by young players and Konsa could be a vital player in his setup. Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka don’t seem to be the future of Everton and the former was exploited brutally by Manchester United in their 4-0 win over the Toffees.
Several clubs including Everton’s Merseyside rivals Liverpool are also courting the player. The versatile player has so far played 48 matches for the Addicks and barring defence, he is capable of playing in a number of positions including midfield and right back.
Everton might make a formal offer in January and it remains to be seen how Charlton reacts to this. They have lost a number of talented young players in the past and are very adamant to keep a hold of their star player. So is he an option for the Toffees?
