Ronald Koeman is ready to launch a no-nonsense offer for Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud. The French international was a target for the Toffees throughout the summer and according to reports, the Everton gaffer is now very adamant to bring the player to Goodison Park this January.
The Merseyside club are ready to offer as much as £40m for the Arsenal frontman, having failed to bring an established player since the departure of Romelu Lukaku.
The Belgian international switched his allegiance to Manchester United this summer and Everton have failed to replace his goals with a suitable player. Both Wayne Rooney and Sandro Ramirez had their chances for the club but both of them have made a pretty slow start to which also is having an impact on the entire team.
Things haven’t turned out the way Koeman would have thought. The gaffer wants to build a squad capable of giving the other biggies a run for their money but they have so far struggled to get the rhythm. Despite having players like of Davy Klaassen, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Sandro, Koeman has toiled hard to find the perfect balance for his team.
Giroud was ready to leave the Emirates in the summer for more game time but Arsene Wenger intervened, pondering over a number of options as he wasn’t sure over Alexis Sanchez’s position at the club.
The Chilean international’s contract is due to end in the next summer and he has been courted by a number of clubs. Arsenal even rejected a deadline day offer of £70m which summed up the situation.
Giroud is pretty much aware of his current situation and might be interested in a move away from the Emirates. The 30-year-old signed a contract extension at the North London club but has been mostly used from the bench. Keeping in mind of the next year’s World Cup, Giroud still holds a place in the plans of the Didier Deschamps and he needs to play regularly to book a place on the Russian outbound flight.
Alexandre Lacazette has been the first choice for the Gunners and Giroud has mainly played the second fiddle to him but at Goodison Park, he will be in the thick of things given the current status. Added to that, Wenger can’t ignore the tempt of letting him go for a whopping £40m which would be a big business given Giroud’s age and quality. So can he improve Everton?
