European football had one of the most intriguing and expensive transfer windows in the recent times, with records being broken by clubs while splashing the cash and bringing in their desired players for the forthcoming matches. Almost all the clubs from all over Europe, including the Premier League biggies like Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham, Everton and defending champions Chelsea, participated with their war chests to bring in viable options to revamp their respective squads and strengthen their teams this summer.
The recently concluded transfer window also saw a number of bizarre incidents, one of which was the denial of Ross Barkley to join Chelsea even after reportedly appearing for his medical at Stamford Bridge on the deadline day. This being one of the most talked about transfer deals of the summer, now the player will be staying back with his current club Everton till the commencement of the next transfer window, which is in January.
The 23-year old’s future with the Toffees has been in contention, subject to an exit from the Merseyside club this summer after denying to pen down a new contract with them over the demand of a revised wage structure. This irked a number of clubs in the Premier League, including the likes of the reigning champions Chelsea as well as last season’s runners up Tottenham Hotspur, with both the clubs looking desperate to get the English international in their roster for the new season.
Chelsea have been very much dependent on their midfield, which was a secret to their triumph in the Premier League last season. A player like Ross Barkley, who has already proved his mettle in the heart of the midfield for his club as well as country would undoubtedly add to the strength of the Blues, who already have players like N’Golo Kante and Tiemoue Bakayoko in their ranks.
Though the player has stated his fitness issue as his reason to stay back at Goodison Park for the time being, which has also compelled him to reassess his “options” for the future, it looks quite unlikely that he will be agreeing to sign a new deal with the Merseyside club and devote his long term future there.
Speculations are rife that Barkley might be open to another move in January, as the player looks more inclined to join their Premier League rivals from the other end of London, Tottenham Hotspur. It is also being assessed as the main reason behind his scuppering the transfer deal with the West London club.
