Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United have certainly been drawn into a group where they are favourites but in the Champions League, there’s usually plenty of work that always remains to be done. A tricky fixture in Moscow against CSKA Moscow awaited United and when it did happen, Mourinho’s men crushed the hosts and won quite convincingly! Here’s how the Manchester United players have been rated from their win over CSKA Moscow.
GK: David De Gea – 7/10
His two vital saves in the first half should not go unnoticed. He had to keep Dzagoev’s low shot out but going back without a clean-sheet would certainly be disappointing as he conceded from between his legs in the second half.
RWB: Ashley Young – 7.5/10
He took dangerous attacking positions throughout the game and looked solid. Captain for the day and he did well.
CB: Eric Bailly – 7/10
Vitinho was set to be the threat for Eric Bailly tonight but Bailly made sure he made himself known to Vitinho before leaving the pitch. He put up a commanding show and was disciplined enough throughout the game.
CB: Chris Smalling – 7/10
He was like the launchpad from the back today with his distributions. Tidy and sorted when it came to defending.
CB: Victor Lindelof – 7.5/10
This was one of his best performances so far wearing the United shirt. He looked supremely confident all game and moved around with enough purpose.
LWB: Daley Blind – 7/10
He was very neat and accurate today. Passed along well and hardly lost the ball and went forward to attack well in the second half.
CDM: Nemanja Matic – 7.5/10
His command and his control on the ball is simply brilliant to watch at times. He played around excellently with CSKA’s midfield and looked unmatched throughout the game.
CM: Ander Herrera – 7.5/10
He was all over the midfield and went about his job with sincerity. His accurate passes and the ability to win balls back helped United. He produced a stunning ball to Martial before the Mkhitaryan goal in the second half.
FW: Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 7.5/10
The Armenian operated in space and didn’t let any defender outplay him. It was a superb game for him too.
FW: Anthony Martial – 8.5/10
The Frenchman was at his lethal best. His dribbling and end product nullified the CSKA defence completely and he got a goal for himself from the penalty prior to completing his brace of assists supplying to Lukaku. He also played a vital role in the fourth goal of Mkhitariyan’s.
FW: Romelu Lukaku – 7.5/10
His unparalleled strength and movement was the spot of trouble for CSKA all night. He scored two very neat goals and has already touched the double-figure mark for goals this season. Beast!
