Manchester United have been phenomenal so far in the league showing no complacency or mercy. They did the same against Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace from the first to the last minute and got a 4-0 win. A goal from Juan Mata, a brace from Fellaini and a late one from Romelu Lukaku was enough to trample Palace. The icing on the cake was De Gea keeping another clean-sheet! Here are the Manchester United players rated in their win over Crystal Palace.
GK: David De Gea – 7/10
The only big save he had to make was off Sako’s effort early on. Another clean-sheet is a huge boost.
RB: Antonio Valencia – 7/10
Marched up and down the wings without trouble and put in a tidy shift whenever needed.
CB: Chris Smalling – 7/10
Kept the grip on Sako and had to deal with Cabaye occasionally. Aerially too he was good. United didn’t miss Bailly much thanks to him.
CB: Phil Jones – 7/10
Neat and disciplined and got the job done. Complimented Smalling perfectly all evening.
LB: Ashley Young – 7/10
His end product and combination with Fellaini is simply brilliant to see. He got an assist for Fellaini’s goal but needs to improve defensively with big games around the corner. Townsend did trouble him on occasions.
CDM: Nemanja Matic – 5/10
A poor performance today from him and that was shocking to see since it’s rare. He looked tired and badly needs a rest.
CM: Marouane Fellaini – 9/10
Scintillating all game and got a brace with two well-taken headers. He has silenced all his critics and that includes the majority of United’s fanbase as well. A special character!
RM: Juan Mata – 8/10
Hardly put a foot wrong and he bagged the opener with a superb finish. He’s a wizard on his day, Juan Mata, he really is.
CAM: Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 4/10
Really poor today and didn’t do anything special. His end product was horrible.
LM: Marcus Rashford – 7.5/10
Took Ward to the cleaners early on and got an assist. His free-kick was excellent and Fellaini got at the end of it to score. The youngster is in great form and he lived up to the expectations again today.
ST: Romelu Lukaku – 6/10
Missed a great chance to score after getting into a good position himself and he was a little bit off today. He got a goal late in the game though to keep his goal-scoring march going on.
Substitutions
LM: Anthony Martial – 7.5/10
Immediately got into his groove after coming on and got an assist. He pulled off a filthy trick on Townsend as well. Martial is a special product and he’s getting his mojo back under Mourinho.
CM: Ander Herrera – 6.5/10
Got the much-needed energy into the midfield and nearly got an assist from Martial’s effort. He surely made an impact.
AM: Jesse Lingard – 5.5/10
Mediocre and he sent the ball into the stands after the layoff from Lukaku.
