A trip to the Netherlands might have served as a test for several teams but Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City never looked like suffering. A strong City side completely choked Feyenoord to get three points on the board and start the group games with a flyer! A brace from Stones and a goal each for the forwards Aguero and Jesus killed the game. Here’s how the Blues of Manchester have been rated.
GK: Ederson – 6/10
Hardly threatened all night by Feyenoord but he was involved in some good passing. He’s recovered positively after that horrific incident during that weekend involving Sadio Mane.
RB: Kyle Walker – 7/10
His continuous marching down the right caused problems in plenty for the Dutch team and he got the assist as well for Aguero’s goal after a sweet cross. Fantastic performance overall from Walker.
CB: Nicolas Otamendi – 7/10
Conducted himself well on the night and went about passing or defending confidently.
CB: John Stones – 8/10
His two goals from headers proved his aerial capability and how he’s improved in that aspect and can be a threat. At the back, it was smooth sailing and his brave block spoke volumes about his “anything for the team ” attitude too.
LB: Benjamin Mendy – 6.5/10
Should be a little more decisive and convincing while defending but his crossing and attacking ability looked really dangerous today.
CDM: Fernandinho – 7/10
Completely secured City from the midfield during the first and took a breather in the second. A mature display and a tidy one this time.
CM: David Silva – 9/10
Sometimes even the term magician might seem less for David Silva! It was a beautiful performance tonight. The Spaniard notched his first assist in this campaign by providing the cross to Stones after 100 seconds and then produced a stunning display with all the possession and passing.
CM: Kevin De Bruyne – 8/10
Drove City from the midfield and got another assist for Stone’s second and City’s fourth. I bet he enjoyed his time with Silva and Bernando.
RF: Bernando Silva – 8/10
Stepped up to cause some menace of his own with De Bruyne and Silva running riot already. His work rate was simply impressive and If he adds end product to his game again now, life will be amazing.
FW: Gabriel Jesus – 7.5/10
His interplay at times was exquisite and he got another goal too which was City’s third. This partnership with Aguero is certainly bearing fruit.
FW: Sergio Aguero – 7.5/10
Took complete part in the attacking developments of the first half and showed composure as well as a clinical aspect to turn Walker’s cross into the goal. Good performance overall.
