Antonio Conte’s long dream to have Antonio Candreva in his side could soon become true. The Italian international hasn’t been at his best for Inter Milan this season and was booed off in the goalless draw against Genoa recently.
Chelsea gaffer had tried his best to bring the 30-year-old but Inter stayed very firm and the player remained on their books but the current scenario might not have gone down well with the player and things might get a little more difficult for the Italian.
Conte signed Candreva’s fellow international Davide Zappacosta and the right-back has started to show his trickery since day one. Bringing a right-back was one of Conte’s priorities and following his failure to lure some big names to the West London club, he preferred to go for the ex Torino defender.
The Nerazzurri are very well stocked in the right-back department. Yann Karamoh, impressed against Genoa while Joao Cancelo is currently on the sidelines with an injury. So Candreva knows if he is to confirm a place in the World Cup squad, he needs to have regular game time and at this moment it’s looking a bit difficult at the San Siro.
Inter coach Luciano Spaletti might have given a slight hint of a possible move. “My position is to keep him and the club agrees with me, for now he has not shown any other signals.
“We go forward calmly, then I don’t know what could happen tomorrow.”
The player has also entered the 30 year age bracket, so he obviously will have some drawbacks as time goes forward. Conte still wants to redevelop some part of his squad and he will be more than happy to see Candreva moving to the Premier League.
Candreva arrived at Inter from Lazio for £19m and made his mark in his opening season. He scored six goals in the Italian top tier and laid on another 11 goals for the Italian giants.
Chelsea did place a £25m offer on the table for him but Inter stood defiantly on their stand that the player is not for sale. Candreva had a tough time against Genoa and didn’t put single cross correctly in the match.
This could be a concern for the Inter gaffer and he might think to exploit the other options at his disposal. The Italian international can play in a number of positions and would give the Blues an edge if he does arrive. But is he the right man for Chelsea?
