Scottish giants Rangers are due to lock horns against Dundee in the Scottish Premiership fixture this weekend at the Ibrox Stadium. The Gers have started their league in a mixed fashion, having collected 7 points from their first 4 outings in the league and are currently placed 5th in the league table, 3 points behind their arch rivals Celtic.
Under the stewardship of Pedro Caixinha, Rangers are undergoing a transitional phase and in order to impose themselves as a serious contender for bagging domestic silverwares, they would have to hit the ground up and running. The international break is done and dusted and it is time now for the players to meet their duties at the club level.
Talking of their opposition, Dundee have manoeuvred merely 1 point so far after their draw against Hibernian in their last fixture. They lost their first three games on trot Ross County, Hamilton Academical and Aberdeen and thus, it goes without saying that Caixinha’s outfit would enter the game as the favourites.
However, the Glasgow based outfit are seemingly likely to not be complacent. Here is how the former Al-Gharafa boss might pencil his starting line-up for their upcoming fixture.
Defence
Wes Foderingham is expected to start between the sticks ahead of Jak Alnwick for the custodian’s role. Ahead of him, two new acquisitions in the shapes of Fabio Cardoso and Bruno Alves are expected to be stationed, as the central defensive pair have really been able to inject resilience into Caixinha’s defensive setup.
From the left-back slot, the Light Blues are expected to give Lee Wallace the nod ahead of newcomer Declan John, whereas, in the right-back slot, it is anticipated that James Tavernier is likely to be handed yet another start owing to his stupendous form so far this season.
Midfield
Daniel Candeias is likely to be handed the responsibility of creating offensive endeavours from the right hand side of the midfield and the same would be expected from Niko Kranjcar from the left. Graham Dorrans and Ryan Jack have been playing a crucial role from the middle of the park and their experience has really helped the Teddy Bears so far.
Attack
Eduardo Herrera should be handed a start up front at the expense of Kenny Miller, as the veteran has been quite sluggish. Alongside him, we expect Alfredo Morelos to start in order to showcase their sheer attacking against Neill McCann’s troops.
Here is how they might line up:
