Liverpool host La Liga side Sevilla next in the group stages of the Champions League as Jurgen Klopp will hope to use this game as a spring board to regain their winning form.
Predicted 4-3-3 Liverpool Lineup vs Sevilla
Defence
The position under the bar should be taken by Simon Mignolet. The Belgian international came back to his position after Liverpool had decided to hand in a chance to Loris Karius in the Arsenal game. However, the two very drastic nature of the game will surely affect Mignolet. He is definitely the first choice and Klopp would want him to get back the confidence with which he had started the season.
After the 5-0 mauling at the hands of Manchester City, Klopp is unlikely to experiment with his side in a crucial game against Sevilla and we expect little change to his back line in the midweek’s game. Alberto Moreno has found a renewed form this season and has looked quite confident apart from the last game.
Alexandre Trent-Arnold will start on the other flank. The English youngster has already opened his scoresheet in the Champions League in the qualification round and Klopp will hope he continues to do that.
The central defence should be taken by Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren. The former Bundesliga has been one of the most regular faces for the Reds this season with Dejan Lovren and Klavan rotating. Both Klavan and Matip were in for the shock of their lives at Etihad last Saturday and Lovren will be expected to get back the lost solidity.
Midfield
Nothing worked for Liverpool last game and it was mainly from their midfield. It might have been the early red card to Sadio Mane or the failed contract talks with Emre Can, but something didn’t just click for them the way it did against Arsenal.
We expect a few changes to run out the incoherence till the first-choice three comes back to form again. The three-man midfield is expected to be Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Georginio Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson.
With Adam Lallana, still out with his thigh injury, who is expected to be back in October, and Can not really focused, Klopp, will have to use his plan B. Milner’s disciplined displays will gel in well with Chamberlain and Wijnaldum’s work rate and could make a bench appearance.
Attack
The three-man attack will feature Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane on the flanks. The African looks suspended till next month in the Premier league and Klopp would want to get the maximum out of his fresh legs in the European and EFL fixtures.
Hence, the attack isn’t likely to change from the one that started against City. Sevilla, although dangerous, doesn’t pack the same punch as City and will be more susceptible to Liverpool’s counter attacks. Roberto Firmino could start up front.
