After getting promoted to the Premier League, Newcastle United carved an indecent start as they lost two games on the trot. However, some positive signs of the resurrection were seen in their previous game before the international break set in as they bulldozed past West Ham United.
The Magpies are due to face Swansea City this weekend in what promises to be a nail-biting fixture. The Swans have collected 4 points from their first 3 outings and considering their desire of finishing inside the rendezvous zone, it is implied that they would be keen to bag some crucial points against a newcomer.
Rafael Benitez has done some stupendous signings this summer, with the likes of Jacob Murphy, Florian Lejeune, Christian Atsu, Joselu and Javier Manquillo making a move to St. James’ Park. Benitez does have the requisite arsenal to maintain the status of a Premier League side of their employers and is likely to put forth a strong side against Swansea City and here is how we expect the Toon to line up.
Defence
Jesus Gamez is a versatile defender and despite being a natural right-back, he is well accustomed to ply his trade as a centre-back as well as a left-back. Chancel Mbemba picked up an injury during the international break, and thus, Gamez is expected to start from the left-back position. Their defence have looked shaky at times and it is about time for them to stand firm and resolute.
At the heart of their defence, Ciaran Clark and Jamaal Lascelles should be teed up, with newcomer Manquillo expected to start from the right-back position. Rob Elliot should be getting the nod to start between the sticks, as the former Napoli boss doesn’t have better options than him.
Midfield
In the middle of the park, we expect the Magpies’ loan signing Mikel Merino to keep things neat and tidy and knit the side together along with Isaac Hayden. The duo needs to cushion their backline and also have to be the impetus for creating offensive endeavours for their side as well. Ayoze Perez should be chalked as the no.10.
Attack
Right up front, Joselu should be getting the nod to start the proceedings and spearhead Newcastle United’s attack. Matt Ritchie has been exceptional so far and would be keen to maintain his fine run of form intact from the right-wing position, whereas Atsu is expected to be pencilled on the left-wing.
