This recently concluded game week has seen ups and downs as excitement was at its peak in this second match week too. Premier League started in a very explosive style and it continued its menace in the second week also.
Goals, red cards, fights. There have been all sorts of entertainment this week as Premier League football lived up to the expectations, as always. Manchester United rallied to beat Swansea City as Romelu Lukaku and Anthony Martial maintained their perfect scoring record so far.
Riding on Marcos Alonso’s brace, the Blues embarrassed Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at their makeshift home Wembley. The most shocking result of this match week was Newcastle United’s surprising defeat to newbie Huddersfield Town. The Terriers secured three points at their home as Benitez’s side crashed to their second defeat.
Manchester City and Everton shared points in a high voltage clash which also saw Kyle Walker and Schneiderlin getting the marching orders from the referee. Southampton, Liverpool and West Bromwich Albion all won their respective matches.
Let us take a look at the Top 3 attackers this weekend.
Wayne Rooney
The English international made a return to Manchester but this time donning the Everton shirt. City were hosting Everton in what was their first home game of this season but it turned out to be Rooney’s night.
The 31-year-old latched onto a Dominic Calvert-Lewin pass and tapped it past City keeper Ederson to mark his 200th goal in the Premier League. Only Alan Shearer has scored more goals than him and the forward has a realistic chance to close the gap.
Koeman opted to give the former Manchester United striker his second start in this season and he repaid the faith by scoring his side’s solitary goal. Rooney’s effort was pretty emphatic as the player sent a message to Gareth Southgate who is scheduled to pick his Three Lions squad in a few days.
Rooney has been on a daunting mission to revive his career and the result is clearly reflecting on his performance.
Javier Hernandez
Despite West Ham United’s lacklustre result, Javier Hernandez’s performance will provide a much-needed boost to Slaven Bilic. Chicharito’s influence was very impressive as he was involved in most of the Hammers’ attacks and gave the Southampton defenders a torrid time.
Jese Rodriguez
Stoke City brought in Jese Rodriguez as a stop gap effort to enhance their attacking options and Mark Hughes pulled a surprise by defeating Arsenal in their first home match of the season.
Rodriguez announced his arrival in style and put the Gunners to the sword.
