Marco Silva has been very busy this summer as Watford have persuaded a clutch of players to join Silva’s project in the Premier League. Following the dismal last season, Watford parted ways with Walter Mazzarri and roped in former Hull City manager Marco Silva in a bid to create an impression this season.
The Hornets surprised everyone by agreeing on a fee of £18m for Andre Gray who joined Watford from Burnley. Marco Silva is desperate to make his mark in the Premier League after the debacle of last season with Hull City.
Despite having brought in six players till now, we might see a couple of players more at the Vicarage Road and if reports are to be believed, Watford are closing in on Benfica winger Andre Carrillo.
The 26-year-old is one of Marco Silva’s dream players and the gaffer is all set to welcome him to the Premier League. The wide man was the subject of controversy when he joined arch-rivals Benfica from Sporting Lisbon at the start of the last season.
The Peruvian international had rejected the chance of extending his stay at the Estádio José Alvalade and faced a brief suspension before making a move. But he couldn’t make a mark at Benfica as he started just three games in the Portuguese top tier.
But regardless his playing time, he remains a very talented player and Silva wants a reunion with the player. During his spell with Sporting Lisbon, the gaffer had the chance to manage him and the player left a mark in his mind.
Benfica are ready to let go of the player after a very underwhelming campaign. Silva is considering a loan offer with an option to buy him permanently if he does show signs of improvement.
The gaffer is personally taking care of the situation and a deal is expected to be completed in the coming days. The Hornets managed to evade relegation by a whisker as they concluded the season in the 17th position and Silva wants a vast improvement in performance.
The gaffer has already given a whole new shape to the team by roping in some quality players with the likes of Andre Gray and Richarlison. Carrillo’s addition would inject some much-needed pace and his combination with Gray and Richarlison might give the opposition defenders a tough time.
Predominantly a right winger, the player can be used anywhere across the front three and his versatile character would add a whole new dimension to the team.
