Having made a decent start to the new Premier League campaign, Tottenham Hotspur, who have been quiet in the transfer market this summer, are now looking to get deals done for their top transfer targets before the deadline day.
They have already added a defender in Davinson Sanchez to their side but Pochettino is now looking for players to improve other positions in the squad. This has seen him linked with some of the most exciting players in Europe and one name now doing the rounds is Barcelona star, Sergi Roberto.
Also a transfer target for Manchester United, Juventus and Chelsea, Roberto is a versatile midfielder, who has played as a right-back for most of his time in the first team at the Camp Nou. However, Barcelona are now ready to let him leave and according to reports from Spanish news outfit Mundo Deportivo, Spurs are now ready to make a €40m bid for him, to meet his release clause.
A product of the La Masia academy, Roberto is one of the most exciting players in the domestic circuit in Spain but has only broken into the first team at the Camp Nou last season. The 25-year old now has 95 La Liga appearances and 25 Champions League appearances, to add to his three international caps for Spain and six for Catalonia, making him an established star.
A central midfielder by trait, Roberto is a player with gifted technique and a great understanding of the game, which helped him excel at right-back in La Liga. He hardly misplaces a pass, short or long and is also rarely dispossessed. He can dribble past a group of opponents with ease and is a player who can make things happen, playing in a midfield role.
He is strong in hold up play as well and though has to work on his defensive duties and finishing in the final third, is a player who can walk into most of the top clubs in Europe.
However, Pochettino might be eyeing him as an option at right-back as he is currently without a senior player for that position. Having lost Kyle Walker to Manchester City and Kieran Trippier to injury, Pochettino quickly needs a right-back and Roberto could do the trick.
He has attributes to be a success in England and once Trippier is back in the first team, the Barcelona man can push on into a midfield role and can act as a long term successor for Belgian playmaker Mousa Dembele, who is now 30. But do you think Roberto is the right man for Spurs?
